Taoyuan to host World Bamboo Congress in 2024

The Taiwan Forestry Bureau is to host the 2024 World Bamboo Congress in Taoyuan, after the event was postponed and then canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Forestry Bureau said yesterday. The nation’s bid to host the conference is part of the bureau’s bamboo industry revival program that is being implemented from this year to 2025.

The focus of this workshop was to reveal the potentials of bamboo as a sustainable resource, a biomaterial that can - while providing us with healthier buildings - also heals the planet’s wounds. WBO sends a SHOUT OUT to Lè Xuän Hà of Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam. He and his family grow, harvest and manufacture bamboo products as a substitute for single-use plastic. Their company, Vibabo, is doing their part in helping the planet, while improving their rural livelihood and maintaining biodiversity on their family farm.

Kwabena Akodwaa-Boadi - World Bamboo Foundation Fellowship Experience Blog

Together, we motivated farmers to plant bamboo and assisted communities to establish community bamboo plantations to contribute to mitigating the excesses of climate change in the transitional zone of the country. We established a 10-hectare bamboo agroforestry demonstration farm and a bamboo nursery where farmers could easily get assess to bamboo seedlings to plant. Our ambition was to gradually turn slash and burn farmers to “Bamboo Agroforesters.”

4th World Bamboo Workshop Vietnam Updates

The opportunity to enter the competition is now closed. We accepted pavilion designs for the competition up until 31 March, after the initial announcement on 16 January. We are overwhelmed by the response, receiving over 175 entries! The Jury has been selected, and the winners will be announced 1 June.
