4

The new website for the upcoming 9th World Bamboo Congress is now on-line!  Read all about the organizers, sponsors and regional background, and for sure, save the dates in order not to miss this grand opportunity!

The realization of the WBC Belgium is a collaboration between the Biosciences Engineering department of the University of Antwerp and Oprins Plant NV, and is co-financed by the European Union. Additional sponsorship is coming from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Hermes, the province of Antwerp, Genicap Corporation NV, and De Kolonie bvba.  Full success ultimately comes from the generosity of sponsors, so we continue seeking additional donors to insure this event attracts and brings people from everywhere interested to hear the best in modern bamboo science and potential.

The National Organizing Committee is comprised of incredibly intelligent and enthusiastic professionals, working together as a group called IKEBANA : Dr. Geert Potters (Univ. of Antwerp) who serves as Chairman of the NOC, Dr. Ing. Johan Gielis (Oprins Plant NV) serving as Co-Chair, and Ir. Frances Schutte (Project Manager, Univ. of Antwerp) as the NOC Secretary. IKEBANA stands for International Centre of Knowledge/Expertise on Bamboo – Northern Campine & Antwerp. The IKEBANA-project promotes bamboo as a source of biomass and an instrument for phytoremediation.

IKEBANA aims to be at the heart of an international collaboration network of different stakeholders to enlarge the scientific knowledge about bamboo, more specifically its cultivation, yield techniques, potential for phytoremediation, use in the wood industry and in the renewable energy sector. Practical know-how will be built up through a supply chain analysis and the interaction with different stakeholders (scientists, farmers, investors in bioenergy, government, etc.).

The upcoming 9th WBC promises to be yet another ambitious international bamboo event. It will be uniquely informative, educational, culturally and intellectually challenging. The event will highlight the state-of-the-art in bamboo science, technology and industry.

The 4 day event will include lectures divided into distinct categories relating to Science and Society (culture and economics.  Focus will be on current status and future potentials, and conclude with a workshop entitled, “Bamboo – a 50-year Perspective”. The last day will consist of optional tours of interest. All presentations will be compiled electronically into the 9th WBC Proceedings and be made available to all attendees as valuable resource for future reference.

Call for Papers is underway.

Please take a few minutes to cruise around the website for all current information, and visit again soon for updates, progress on the Program Schedule and other important details!

  2. Chhattisgarh has very dense bamboo forest and tribes resided in this and their livelihood are shared by bamboo in form of food, shelter and craft work and bamboo craft men are shifting their traditional sources from craft work to other profession in lack of advance technology, awareness of marketing system etc. They required proper care for training, availability of raw quality bamboo culms, marketing net work etc first.

We are a manufacturer of windows and doors made of bamboo and would like to get in touch with possible agents for our products in europe and/ or cooperate with other producers of building elements or systems of bamboo worldwide. Contacts from supplyers welcome. We will try to present our products parallel to the congress in Antwerp. Is there a parallel show in Antwerp? Thanks for specification. Regina kul-bamboo
