Dear Friends,
Unfortunately we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 12th World Bamboo Congress for 2021.
We have been coordinating this event for over three years. Last year, when it was obvious the covid19 pandemic would prevent us from traveling to Taiwan to experience this amazing event, we made the decision to postpone until September 2021. Today the situation is still uncertain around the globe, with travel bans, quarantines, and too many people dying from the virus. The attention of the government of Taiwan is to domestic endeavors, and not to crowds with international visitors.
Therefore, the decision has been made to cancel the proposed Taiwan event entirely.
Good news also comes with the bad, and we are told that the bamboo industry in Taiwan is getting stronger attention from the central government. Minister of State Chang Ching-se is actively establishing a national promotion plan for bamboo, and has called for the Forest Bureau to develop bamboo-related projects.
Along with our 12WBC National Organizing Committee, we feel the urgency of information exchange, and cannot wait more years to start sharing the Taiwanese advances in science & technology, in forestry, in product manufacturing, etc. Therefore, we plan to launch a series of themed videos or presentations via virtual symposiums from this year to next year, including other cutting-edge research from around the world. Please stay tuned for more information.

During our trips to Taiwan for organization meetings, our Taiwanese friends were kind, generous hosts. There were so many interesting conversations, discussing all the exciting possibilities. They showed us the beauty of Taiwan people, culture, cuisine, and landscapes.
We will not give up on hosting a future WBC in Taiwan.
We thank you for your interest to participate in the 12th WBC in Taiwan. We look forward to the future to when we can again be together in person for #BambooNow. We will keep you informed on what comes next as we develop our online virtual symposium series.
