Maira is a Designer in Interior Architecture from Viña del Mar University, with a master’s degree in Architecture from Zhejiang University in China. She has worked at INBAR (International Network of Bamboo & Rattan) in Beijing, China, and has collaborated with the Bamboo Research Center (CBRC) in Hangzhou, China, where she received training in applied technologies, product development, taxonomy, and forestry.
Maira is the founder of Bamboobiz Design Chile, a pioneering company in the development of local bamboo in the fields of architecture and design, with 23 years of experience in construction and bamboo-based design. In recent years, her work has focused on promoting the use of local bamboo, particularly Colihue, in lightweight constructions, replacing wood and metal in structures that provide innovative architectural solutions in urban areas.
An active member of the Chilean Bioconstruction Association, she is a strong advocate for natural and sustainable architecture. She is also the co-founder of Chusquealab Foundation, dedicated to the research and development of native Chusqueas in Chile, with the aim of addressing the country’s eco-social crisis.
