Damyang County

Damyang County (Damyang-gun) is located in Jeollanam-do, South Korea, and is renowned for its vibrant bamboo industry and rich tourism offerings. Famous for its bamboo forests, Damyang has become a popular destination for visitors seeking the natural beauty of its landscapes, as well as its well-crafted bamboo products. The county is also known for its strawberries, adding to its agricultural charm.

The county is home to stunning geographical features, including the mountains of Chuwolsan and Byeongpungsan, which attract hikers and nature enthusiasts. Geumseongsan, with its historic fortress, adds a cultural dimension to the natural scenery. Damyang is divided into one eup (Damyang-eup) and eleven myeon, each contributing to the area’s unique character and appeal.

Bamboo plays a central role in Damyang’s identity, with its famous bamboo forests being one of the northernmost on the Korean peninsula. The region has capitalized on this natural resource by developing attractions like the Bamboo Theme Park, Bamboo Museum, and Juknokwon (Green Bamboo Park), alongside an annual Bamboo Festival, all of which celebrate and preserve the county’s bamboo heritage.
