In conjunction with a private foundation, the World Bamboo Organization has established the World Bamboo Foundation (WBF). The leadership of the WBO and the private foundation share the objective to recognize timber bamboo silviculture and commercialization alongside that of traditional wood. Thus, the purpose of the WBF is to support and advance the use of sustainably grown and harvested timber bamboo as a major contributor for both global climate change and poverty mitigation.

Two prizes will be awarded regularly over the next five years:

a. Global Bamboo Climate Prize. The intent is to recognize those individuals whose research, communications or other activities significantly advance the global awareness and adoption of timber bamboo for its role in mitigating climate change.

b. Global Bamboo Community Development Prize. The intent is to recognize those individuals whose research, communications or other activities significantly advance the global awareness and adoption of timber bamboo for its role in mitigating indigenous poverty in the communities co-located with timber bamboo.

The WBF has also established the WBF Global Fellowship program, awarded with a stipend for topics relevant to the investigation of timber bamboo and its potential contribution to mitigating global warming.
