Champions of Change: Empowering Bamboo for a better Future
Dedicated volunteers steer the World Bamboo Organization. The Ambassadors work independently but are connected as a team, and we collaborate to expand the potential of our actions and our mission.

On each occasion her work took Emme to a new continent, she found time to wander every botanical garden and forest her partner could find on the map. In one of them - or all of them – they both fell in love with bamboo’s timeless mystery, beauty, and resilience. Joining the American Bamboo Society, their interest in bamboo continued to grow beyond its botanical significance until their library shelves supported every book on bamboo they could find in Canadian bookstores, and then some.
When the WBO sought a volunteer to manage its LinkedIn account, Emme offered her social media knowledge and writing skills and began overseeing the organization’s page in 2021. Since then, she has added another shelf to the bamboo section of her personal library, built relationships with leaders, researchers, and entrepreneurs across the many fields of bamboo innovation, and grown the WBO’s connections on LinkedIn from under 500 to over 5,000.
In 2023, Emme took note of the significant increase in interest and engagement about bamboo on the LinkedIn platform. Many more individuals and organizations are turning to the WBO for information and connections integral to their work no matter what their professional or personal interest might be. She believes LinkedIn to be an excellent platform for building bamboo awareness and engagement within its varied ecological, scientific, architectural, commercial, civic, and cultural contexts. And, of course, making and nurturing the connections individuals within those varied contexts require to keep bamboo growing!
Emme lives outside Toronto, Canada, with her bamboo-supportive partner, Scott. She has yet to successfully cultivate a stand of bamboo.
