Dr. Hans Friederich is a Dutch geographer with more than 40 years of experience working in nature conservation and international development in Europe, Africa, and Asia. He has been involved with the World Bamboo Organization since 2014 and became an Ambassador in 2019. From 2014 to 2019, Hans was the Director-General of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR), based at the Headquarters in China.
Hans represented INBAR and has spoken about bamboo at many international meetings and UN gatherings, delivering presentations on the role of bamboo in sustainable development in various countries around the world. In Beijing, he was a member of the Diplomatic Corps and discussed bamboo development with numerous Ambassadors and occasional visiting Heads of State. As INBAR Director-General, he spoke at the UN General Assembly to represent the interests of the global bamboo community.
Currently, Hans is actively involved in bamboo development in Europe, particularly through his advisory role with the Dutch company Bamboologic. He is a member of the European Bamboo Society, a member of the advisory board of the ArtEZ Bamboo in Europe project, and one of the founding advisors of the Imagine Bamboo community in the UK. He has extensively written about bamboo and spoken at bamboo events in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK.
