Luis Felipe Lopez

Engr. Luis Felipe Lopez currently serves as the General Manager of Base Bahay Foundation Inc., assuming the role on July 1, 2024. Originally from Colombia, Luis relocated to the Philippines in 2014 to lead Base Bahay’s efforts in Bamboo Housing Product Development. Before joining Base Bahay, he was a consultant for the HILTI Foundation, tasked with identifying the most suitable bamboo construction system for the Philippines.
Luis holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2000) and is recognized as one of the authors of the Colombian Bamboo Structural Design Code (NSR-10). He has also actively contributed to the development of bamboo construction codes in Peru and Ecuador. He currently represents Colombia as part of the ISO Committee TC 165 (Timber and Bamboo Structures), where he played a key role in updating the ISO 22156 standard for Bamboo Structural Design, which was published in June 2021.
In addition to his international work, Luis was recently appointed Co-Chair for Chapter 8 (Bamboo Volume I) of the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) 8th Edition, 2022. His extensive expertise in bamboo construction systems and standards makes him a leading figure in the global bamboo housing and sustainable construction sectors.
