Damyang, Korea recognized by FAO UN
We here at WBO are very pleased to see the recognition by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations of Damyang, Korea, as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS). Damyang, led by Governor Choi Hyungsik, hosted the 10th World Bamboo Congress in 2015.

On September 16, 2019, during the 1st Congress of Thanh Hoa Bamboo Association held at the Thanh Tam EcoPark, Mr Luong Viet Loi of Sam Son City, Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam was awarded the first ever certificate of "being = bamboo member of humanity". This event also earned the title World Bamboo Landmark.

Because there is so much happening around the world involving bamboo, the World Bamboo Organization is launching a new initiative : World Bamboo Landmarks. The First World Bamboo Landmark will take place on the 6th of August, 12:00noon @ Fiestas de La Blanca Vitoria-Gasteiz in Euskadi, Spain.

The Hillsborough Bamboo Project was initiated by three students from Hillsborough High School in New Jersey. As part of their World History Honors class, these kids researched the versatility of bamboo to discover its inherent sustainability. They promoted bamboo to their community and raised over $500, which they generously donated to WBO.

This amazing Workshop was based on three themes: Construction, Food and Handicrafts, in which hands-on training was given. Additionally, photography, painting and food competition was included, expanding dimension and audience. Over 300 delegates from 34 countries participated! This was more than a workshop; it was a Congress!
